These past few weeks have been crazy. Full of ups and downs of being in and out of the Spirit. Feeling the abundance of God’s love one minute and being completely self-absorbed the next. Life has been literally like a roller coaster for me here lately. I’ve been wanting to go out and “be Jesus” to people, but He’s been telling me to stay quiet in His presence and listen to Him. It’s been tough, but beneficial.
He’s been showing me this month particularly that life isn’t about what you do, how you do it, or who you do it to/for. Life is about your heart and loving God. It’s not about other people and the roles that they play in your life. It’s about doing what the Father says to do. "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” – John 4:34

Certain days of the week I volunteer at a local nonprofit that helps those in need by giving them food and supplies. This month while working there the Lord has blessed me in ways I cannot even speak of or express. One day I was feeling particularly irritable and not really wanting to be there. It was hot and I was tired (what a great excuse to be irritable). This Hispanic man drove up to pick up a few pallets and noticed that we had some molded bread sitting in boxes waiting to be thrown out. He asked me if he could have some to feed his chickens, and I gave him a few boxes. He was so overjoyed and thankful that he literally started jumping up and down excited and full of the Holy Spirit! I don’t know if he was speaking English or Spanish or a conversion of the two but somehow or another I understood every word he said! Goosebumps covered his entire body and he began literally shouting “HALLELUJAH! PRAISE MY FATHER IN HEAVEN!” He told me that his chickens would now have enough food for a while and he wouldn’t have to kill them. It was another two weeks that God allowed eggs to be on his table.

I also often work with the mentally handicapped or disabled at this nonprofit, something that I am not particularly use to doing. Every time I walk in and see these wonderful people my heart is filled with joy. They don’t care what you ask them to do or when you ask them to do it. They outwork everyone else around them and are so full of love! One particular day I remember one of these individuals came in and told one of our other volunteers that a customer told him to thank the volunteer and to give her a great big hug, and so he did. And when he finished hugging her he sat down in a chair with the biggest smile I had ever seen on his face. He was joyful. His heart was like Christ’s.
Daddy, please help me become like these children of yours who are so overwhelmed at the gifts that you give them. I want joy in my heart like they have in theirs. I want my food to be your will to be done in my life. Teach me and I will be silent; show me your ways oh gracious Father in Heaven. Bless those who bless others and give grace to the humble. Teach me to be more like You!
