Day 1 & 2

My team and I had just arrived in South Africa when God started showing up like I've never seen Him show up before. He had provided me more than enough food and water on all of the plane rides up to that point and for the first time during a travel day on the race I wasn't hungry or thirsty! I was actually content!

As we waited in the bus station for our bus to leave we were given the opportunity to buy meals for the 18 hour bus ride. For the 2 day period we were given 100 Rand (equivalent to $10 USD) to purchase food and water. By this time I had only 1/4 of a bottle of water left, no food, and had spent 11 Rand and given 20 away to a friend in need, leaving me roughly 69 Rand for food.

As I walked into the little market in the bus station I began to look for the cheapest prices. There was only one problem….nothing was priced! So I went up to the cashiers counter where he had bread and fruit and asked him how much a loaf of bread, a bag of bananas, and a liter of water would be. In the end I walked out of there with 3 loaves of bread 5 bananas, and 2 liters of water. I thought for sure I was going to starve to death over the next few days!

I never will forget praying and thanking God for the food He had given me as I ate the bread and bananas and drank the water. It wasn't what I wanted, but in the end I wasn't hungry nor was I thirsty. In fact I gave away a loaf of that bread and finally finished up the second loaf this morning for breakfast. That's all I've had to eat for 2 days, but I can't express to you how grateful I am for it!

I'm truly beginning to appreciate things for what they are and my eyes are beginning to be opened. I am now seeing life the way so many see it. I'm having to depend upon God for my daily needs and it's beautiful!
