This month my team and I have been working with an organization that helps and assists both men and women in the Red Light District area to get them out of the sex slave industry. We have mainly been focusing on building up relationships that stand on the foundation of love that Christ has put in us and through that have been able to connect to the people in the Red Light District with a powerful effect. I have learned that this ministry isn't for the weak or faint hearted, but requires a strong relationship with God that in the end will produce fruits of grace, mercy, and unconditional love.

For the past two years now I have had a desperate heart to help with the prevention of sex slavery around the globe and for that duration of time have been denied by many organizations for what seems to be "just reasons". The reasoning? I am a man. I have to admit that up until now I have sadly agreed with the understanding that men cannot help with sex slave industry because a high percentage of the male population on earth struggles with lust and to put a man in the middle of a Red Light District is asking for trouble. Yes, this has been my shared belief up to the point of me arriving at this ministry. Now after having gone out on numerous occasions into the Red Light District myself I can honestly say that the previous statement is not only false, but frightening.

I have some amazing news for any and all men who are passionate about stopping the sex slave industry around the world: YOU CAN HELP! The other two men on my team (Joey Willis & Justin Greenawalt) and myself have been going out to the Red Light District all month and have been highly effective in bringing the Light of the Kingdom to this dark place. Because we are aware of who we are in Christ and depend on God daily we have been able to reach out to the men, women, and ladyboys and show them the love of Jesus. It has been a powerful experience and one that I will never forget.

How we did it:

Know who you are – The men on my team including myself all know who we are in Christ enough to know that we could never go out in the Red Light District without first going to God and asking Him to come alongside us. Prayer and intercession were so key this month to the guys (and the girls for that matter) going out that without it, it would not have been the same experience at all.

Go with girls! – Our ministry had some advice for us as guys when we went out on the streets for ministry, "Always have 2 girls for every 1 guy with you." It's good advice that makes things so much easier for the guy. I'm not going to lie and tell you that just because you have to girls with you that your not going to get grabbed and pulled into a bar, that actually is very likely to happen. Rather, having two other girls with you will lighten the mood when you actually get to sit down and talk with a ladyboy or a girl working at a bar. At first your going to look like another "customer" to them, but once they see that your their with the two girls and you are just friends with them it tends to make them see that you aren't like most men they encounter. – And remember when your reaching out to the bar girls or ladyboys, you (as a man) are not going to be the one initiating the conversations most of the time. That's the girls jobs. You need to wait until a foundation has been built and they see that you are different. Go with your gut.

A few nights ago the men on my team decided that we wanted to go out to the bars just as guys to see how effective we would be. Obviously we weren't going there to try and talk to the bar girls or ladyboys, but instead we wanted to talk to the John's. This was the single most hardest night I have ever had doing bar ministry. We looked like we were on the prowl as we ventured from bar to bar honestly just looking for a few guys to talk to. We ended up finding a guy who was a bartender at one of the bars and played pool with him. At the end of it we ended up getting to pray for him! It was an awesome experience, but would have been ten times easier if the girls had been there to ease the tension.

Go with God – Make sure that your heart is in the right spot. This is a dark area your about to go into! If you aren't feeling up for it and need to stay back and work on some personal stuff do it. Always ask God and make sure that He's by your side in what you are doing.

Now I will say that if you are a man who struggles with prostitution, pornography, lust, etc, you need to get a grip on that (meaning let God do a work in you) before you step into this ministry. You need to have a clean heart and mind or the enemy will get you. If you give him an inch he'll take a mile.

Once relationships have been built you as man can start hanging out with the people you meet during the day. Have the two girls that you are with invite them to come along on some kind of an outing and continue being the awesome man of God that you are. This is where you will make the biggest difference!
