My name is Kyle Petersen, I live near Minneapolis Minnesota and am 19 years old. I decided to go on the World Race because I feel called to missions. I want to travel and see the world and its people and cultures. I started feeling called to missions during a 3 month missions trip to Cameroon with my family the winter of 2012. This was our first missions trip as a family and my first trip outside of America. I loved the people there and the culture and from all of that experience I had a new perspective, that is when I really started feeling called to missions. The next year my dad and I went back to Cameroon to help build a Bible translation center, this only helped to solidify my desire to go into missions and see the world. I finished my last 2 years of high school through a program called PSEO (Post Secondary Education Option) which allowed me to do college classes for free and have them count for both college and high school. Through PSEO I was able to get my associates degree for free at the same time as graduating high school. My plan was to take a gap year to do something awesome, so I got a job at the international airport thinking I would get benefits and be able to travel a bit but I got no benefits and I was working so much that I no longer had a life outside of work. This is when my mom showed me World Race. I am so incredibly excited to go in this trip, I believe God will show me things and use me in ways I have never even thought about before.
Now here is a little bit more about who I am. I really enjoy music. I play piano, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, percussion, and a little bit of violin. I enjoy listening to most styles, though I do not listen to very much country, rap, or heavy metal. A few of my favorite artists are Sleeping at Last, Gungor, Switchfoot, Mumford and Sons, Rich Mullins, and Electric Light Orchestra. One of my favorite things to do is just make music that is brand new, just sit down at a piano and listen to what comes out. I have recorded some of these little projects and will include a link to them in the future. I also really enjoy sports. I love to play just about any sport that includes obstacles or balls. I do not play any sports competitively but that is mostly because I never really had the time or money for it. Some of my favorite ball sports are American football, soccer (football), ultimate frisbee (not a ball but still fun), team hand ball, and volleyball. I also enjoy skiing and parkour.
