I’ve got a cool thought for you, a perspective on the church maybe you did not have before; we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Now you are probably all thinking, “yes, I know this, every Christian knows this”, but have you really thought about what that means? Why are we all siblings? Most people would simply say, “because the bible says so,” or something like that, but being siblings in Christ makes way more sense than people think. First, think about why you are siblings with your actual brothers and sisters. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister, they are my siblings because we were brought into this physical life, and brought up in this life by the same people. This definition gets fuzzy once we take into account step siblings, half siblings, and adopted siblings, but these are the after effects of living in a broken world. Basically, Levi is my brother because we have the same parents. In Christ we are siblings because we were brought into spiritual life and brought up in spiritual life by the same person; Jesus Christ. Being brothers and sisters in Christ is not some silly little phrase I throw around because it sounds cute, my world race team mates are my siblings as legitimately as Ellie and Levi and Chris are my siblings back in Minnesota. And it gets more real when you realize that our physical lives will only be maybe 100 years if we are lucky, but our spiritual lives will last forever. This means Levi will only be my blood brother as long as we both live, but we will be brothers in Christ for eternity. This sort of makes our siblings in Christ more legit than our Physical siblings. So if I call you brother or sister, I actually mean it. We are truly children of God, all of us brothers and sisters in Christ who has brought us into life.
