Jim and Kathy are our contacts this month. They are the stewards of a missionary-friendly foster home in Greystones, about a mile from the Irish Sea shore. Right now, they’re caring for three kids: Ryan and Crystal (brother and sister) and Michael. I’ve grown particularly close to Jim this week as we’ve worked to help him get some big projects done in the back yard. He has this insane wisdom that has stemmed from his fear of the Lord and it’s such a blessing to be discipled by him this month.

Every morning, as we feast over breakfast (and I mean feast!), someone will read a random piece of scripture from wherever they happen to be studying that morning and Jim will turn it into a rock-solid lesson that has us all floored. I’ve taken down a couple thoughts he’s shared with us over the past few mornings. They’d each make an awesome Facebook status update… I’m just sayin!

  • Unless the hand surrenders the bread to the mouth, it will not receive the benefits that the bread offers. You are the hand, the bread is your ability and gifts, and the mouth is the church.

  • It takes work and a lot of digging to get down to the rock foundation.

  • Where are the most believers? Hell. We all believe in the end, but like the people who called Noah crazy as he was building the ark, the door will be closed when you finally have the proof you asked for.

  • We have the helmet of salvation, but do we wear it?

  • Just as paint in a bucket does nothing until it’s applied to a canvas, the words of God are just words until they are applied to our lives.

  • People who don’t know Jesus think it’s awkward to listen to you talk about Jesus because the light of the Spirit in your heart is convicting the darkness they have in their own.

We’ve got some awesome weekend plans coming up. Picture a road trip through Dublin, Gallway and over to the cliffs of Moher where there’s a festival going on.  The eight of us going (combination of racers from Soar and CRASH) will be spending at least one night on the road, either in Jim’s camper van, in our tents or in a hotel.  Those details of the trip are in God’s hands.  Needless to say, though, Ireland is amazing and I’m loving every minute of being here!

I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures!  In the meantime, here are a couple from the last 48 hours:
