So we’ve been in Africa for about 5 days. We’ve settled into our contact’s home. We are staying with a great couple named Joseph and Mercy. Joseph is a pastor at a local church and he is very welcoming and will be a great contact for us. Personally though I am really struggling right now. I’m not sure exactly the reason but I’ve felt more down and depressed than I have all trip. Its tough being on a new team and feeling this way because I don’t feel I’m giving a good impression of who I am, I am also unsure of who I can talk to. I thought coming into Africa will be an incredible experience where I can see God’s presence, but it hasn’t happened so far. For some reason I am really struggling to get motivated to do ministry or love on the people around me. Please just be praying for me as God directs me through this tough time. The only hope I lean on is the fact that God is good.
Here is a picture of my new team at the hotel in Ireland.
So what’s been going on with our ministry so far. Joseph is very relaxed, he pastors a church of a couple 100 people in the middle of the market next to his home. He agressively seeks opportunities to minister to and witness to all those around him and he’s calling us to do the same. Joseph holds prayer services everyday at 1 where the whole community is invited to come pray. He has also set up opportunities for us to speak to the children in the public schools. We are going to teach children tomorrow and share the gospel with them. Today we prayer walked around town and struck up conversation with people we saw. I saw a man with an Auburn hat and was able to share the gospel with him, his name is Jonah. Ultimately our ministry is open to whatever we want to do, Joseph will make it happen. We are not doing much hard labor as that does not seem to be a need. People need Jesus more than anything else.
One last thing is the challenging news that our next support goal is coming up this wednesday, Sept 15th. On Wednesday I must be at $11,500 or I miss the goal. I am $593 short of the goal. Support Here Missing the goal will not send me home, but it will be cause for concern and I will have to more agressively pursue funds and focus less on the ministry at hand. So please if you feel led. give to the work that God is doing here in Kenya and will continue to do throughout Africa, East Asia, and Central America.
In other interesting news, one of my teammates, Sarah Hogan, in effort to reach her goal has stated she will eat what Americans would consider very nasty Kenyan food that happens to be a delicacy here if she is able to reach her goal by Wednseday. She talks about the possible challenge in her recent blog, Link, so if you enjoy seeing people eat gross food, visit her blog and support her also. Ultimately please be praying for myself and our team here in Kenya
