The start of baseball season is always a great day. I have a feeling that this year, after missing all of Auburn football, the start of baseball season cannot get here soon enough. Our time here in Nicaragua is going to have an opening day of its own. We play softball on Monday morning. Some of the locals have invited us to play a game against them in the stadium right outside the town. All of us guys have big plans for the game, and we will certainly be disappointed if we lose. I’ve played mostly soccer over the past year, but I am very excited for a chance to play softball. So that is what we will be doing. Here’s a little update on what we have been doing.
We visited one of the many volcanoes in Nicaragua, it was beautiful but breathing in sulfur wasn’t very fun.
Sydney (cute smile) and I overlooking the lagoon.
We’ve spent one off day visiting a volcano and another off day visiting the beach. Ministry has started to shape up as we have befriended some teenage boys in the barrio (name for a run down village in Nicaragua). We’ve been able to bring them Bibles and answer some of the basic questions they have about Christianity. One man named Edwin who is definitely a leader within the barrio started crying today when telling us about how he wants to please God. There are hardly any job or education opportunities for these boys. There is also a good deal of pressure to join one of the local gangs for protection and community. I definitely feel that God has led us to these group of young boys to encourage them and disciple them. Their hearts are genuine and I trust that God will be there for them even after we leave.
I found a fellow Auburn fan in the nearby town of Diriamba.
Football time.
I’m disappointed because no one was able to snap a picture of the first time I’ve ever ridden a horse. In the village the other day, I rode a bronco without a saddle and with no prior instructions. Definitely a scary moment. So riding horses and playing softball makes things fun for sure. Of course the other side of things is that we are all incredibly tired. There are days when I am not sure how I can make it 2 more months, and I’m sure some of my squadmates feel the same way. So please pray that God will give us the strength to finish the race.
