So last month’s travel day brought us much closer to home as we traveled from the other side of the world to the Central Time Zone. The drive from Nicaragua to El Salvador was 12 hours north toward the states. Part of me wanted to keep driving north, but I realized the chances of making it through Guatemala and Mexico on a bus alive were fleeting at best. So I decided to stick with my new team here in El Salvador.
The decision has paid off so far. I’m really enjoying my new team. We all get along well and have had two good nights of team meetings. Our set up in El Salvador is pretty great. We could not find the town we were staying in on the map, and considering how great my accomodations were last month in Nicaragua, I was expecting the worst for this month.
Our pastor picks us up in San Salvador and after a few minutes of being in the car with us, he pulls out his cell phone and starts watching t.v. on it. This indicated to us that our location might not be as primitive as we previously assumed. We find out our pastor’s house has cable and wi fi and the food we will be served will be incredible. They asked us if we like steak and pancakes.
We arrived shortly before President Obama visited El Salvador, I wonder if he was served steak and pancakes.
For ministry we have a great opportunity to help some men here plant a church in an unreached neighborhood. This neighborhood is filled with members of the Catholic church which according to our contacts does not preach the gospel. We were skeptical of this until we’ve seen that many people who claim do be catholic do not know how to have a relationship with God and do not have a Bible. We are seeing many people come to faith in Christ everyday.
We also have the opportunity to play softball with some El Salvadorans. Of course we won. That makes me 2 for 2 in matches against Central American countries. I wonder if the Guatemalans will make the mistake of challenging us. Funny fact to leave on, the Pastor has a dog here named Bobby, but the dogds name is said in a British accent.
This picture pretty much speaks for itself.
