“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” (Lk10:2)

Jesus this says to his 72 disciples before sending them out to proclaim his word among the towns on the road to Jerusalem. His words are still relevant today in our society, as our world has a great need for the love that Christ has shown us. This much is evident by the countless acts of terror and violence that not only shake our nation but all nations on Earth. Our world needs God.

A friend of mine, and brother in Christ, once said, “I don’t like the term ‘missionary’, because if we’re truly following Christ’s word we are all missionaries.” He, Mike, is a guy who has traveled, taught, and spread the Word all around the globe. God has given him some clear perspective; that He intends for all of us to be missionaries. Dictionary.com defines ‘missionary’ as “a person sent on a religious mission, especially one sent to promote Christianity.” God calls those who are living with Christ to “… go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” (Lk9:60) If we are to live as Christ lived, then it’s our duty to the Lord to go forth and proclaim the gospel. This can be done anywhere from the streets of our hometown to countries that we’ve never heard of. A missionary isn’t just someone who goes to work in an orphanage in Africa, it’s each and every one of us who calls out to people to glorify God.

I think God has been preparing me to go on the world race for a while. He has graced me with travel experience, the ability to live out of a backpack, and comfort in sleeping in strange places. One way that I hope to grow is in my ability to show the love that God has given to us, through sharing the message of Jesus. I think the world race will be an Awesome way to cultivate this skill, so that it can be taken back to the US.
