Yolanda was our flight attendant and she made our flight from Haiti to the US very enjoyable. Right as soon as I walked on the plane she greeted me with a huge smile. We said hello and had a mini conversation but right away she noticed my necklace with the giving keys on it. (If you don’t know what that is then go read my other blog “Chosen”) There were people waiting behind me to find their seats so I told her I’d talk to her about it later. I sat in the very back of the plane so I was right by where the flight attendants would hang out. A couple of my squadmates were waiting in line for the bathroom and they were talking to Yolanda and Maggie (another flight attendant), so I decided to get out of my seat and talk with them also. Before I got out of my seat I put the key ‘Loved’ in my pocket. Yolanda and Maggie had the sweetest personalities and were very kind to us. We told them about the World Race and they told us a little about their lives and also what had been happening in America while we’ve been gone.
Later in the conversation I told Yolanda about the giving keys. Zane and Kelsey were talking with them so we all shared what our key was. I still had my ‘chosen’ key on but I also added another key to my necklace because I needed it at the time. It was ‘strength’. Before the race started my mom and I found giving keys in a store so I got 5 for each country and my mom also got me two more at launch. The whole time I was talking to Yolanda I felt God pushing me to give her the key. While I was talking to them and getting to know part of their lives I kept thinking to myself if I should give her the key or not because she was a very happy person and she seemed to be loved well. I was debating on whether I should give it to her or not but then God kept pushing me.
When the flight landed I was the last person to get off the plane. I stood by Yolanda and gave her the key. I told her that she is loved by so many people but especially by God. She started crying. It was awesome because that means it actually meant a lot to her. They were happy tears of course, but I’m so glad God told me to give it to her. Yolanda told me how thankful she was and the Pilate also said something to her about how he’d been recently talking to her about how she’s loved. I thought that I was super cool. I had to get going so I couldn’t talk long but we got a picture together.
So, my advice to anyone who’s reading this is if God is pushing you to do something even if you’re not confident about it, do it anyways because you never know what’s going on in another persons life and what they need. God can work in super cool ways if you let Him use you.
