Ok so I’m going to take a break from all the spiritual stuff going on in my heart and let you in to see what I physically do during the day. Now don’t get me wrong, all the spiritual growth is important, BUT I want to show you guys what physically goes on and what life on the race looks like.
Welcome to what a regular day looks like on the field for my current location. Ok, here we go:
7:00am- Wake up
7:15am- Make myself breakfast (eggs with ham) and simultaneously make my lunch for the day.
Oh and I can’t forget the coffee. It’s a necessity.
7:30am- Go outside with my coffee and yummy breakfast and spend my sweet time with the good Lord. This is also a necessity to get through the day.
8:20am- Go back inside and get ready and dressed for the day. And yes I am still in my pajamas at this point. Comfort is key.
8:45am- Leave to go to ministry. This is usually evangelism in squatter camps.
Squatter camps are kinda like villages. Shacks are as far as the eye can see and they’re filled with people from all over Africa. We meet people from Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Swaziland. Just to name a few. They come to find jobs here in Johannesburg and leave their families back in their home countries to provide for them. Sacrifice at its finest.
9:30am-Noon- Go out into these squatter camps and share the good news of the gospel with people who are thirsty for hope and something more.
Noon-1:00pm- Eat lunch
1:00pm-3:00pm- Go back out into the camps and keep sharing the love of the Lord. This is usually the hardest part of the day because exhaustion starts to hit you, but when you rely on the Lord he helps push you to keep going. Good exercise of dependence.
3:00pm- Go back to our nice sweet cottages.
3:30pm-6:00pm- Free time to swim or be alone or watch movies and relax.
Side note we have teams that switch off cooking so that team will start dinner around 5.
6:00pm- Dinner time. Yum.
We eat pretty normal foods. It’ll range from spaghetti to stir fry to baked chicken and corn. Nothing strange we’re eating so BLESS.
7:30ish- Team time.
Mondays are journey markers where we are asked questions given to us by AIM to mark our spiritual journey throughout the month, Tuesday is blogging days, Wednesday is worship night, Thursday is feedback, Friday is free fo’ all which can look like watching a movie or playing a game, Saturday is debriefing the week, and Sunday is our Sabbath day and there is no team time.
8:30pm- After team time it’s free for all and we hang out until we feel tired and go to bed.
9:30pm-12:00am- time range of when I lay my head down at night. Just depends on how tired I am and if I’ve taken a nap that day too 🙂
And there you have it. A regular day of my life on the race. Now it does vary ALOT and adaptability is definitely key. Flexibility is also vital and definitely a life lesson I can take home with me.
And there are also different ministries we do such as going into schools and teaching life orientation classes and going into preschools and playing with kids ages 2-6. These are my FAVORITE days. So lots of jam-packed stuff, but all good things for the Lord. He has definitely pushed me to rely on him a ton these past two months because of how busy we are and how demanding it is. We have to be in tune with the spirit in order to do his work and allow ourselves to be used by him. Complete dependence upon him. So hard but so good.
Thanks guys! Make sure to stay tuned because I leave for the Philippines in a little over a week!! How crazy. But anyways, later gators.
