I’m not sure it’s a great idea to sustain “just a job” for an extended period of time. As it turns out your “just a job” may actually develop into “a place I like to go to” or even “a good investment of my time and energy”. I guess I had to learn this the hard way.
Today I walked out the doors of Kids Quest for the last time. I had been employed there for over two years, and certainly never would have guessed that I stay that long. My original plan was to pay the bills, which meant acquiring some sort of job. I like kids enough, and figured a childcare facility might be an okay job. Two plus years later here I am handing in my keys as Assistant Director and honestly fighting back tears as I say goodbye to my boss. What?! No one would ever do that when leaving their “just a job”!
Now, I am sad to say goodbye to my friends and colleagues at Kids Quest, but I am ready for the mystery of the future. So, with a bittersweet step forward I look back at where I came from and appreciate that it somehow prepared me for what lies ahead. Thanks Mindy and the rest of the team for teaching, challenging, and helping me develop over the years. And thank you for graciously supporting me as I take a step away from Kids Quest into whatever the future holds. Get ready world, here I come!
