You’ve heard the saying, “S#@% Happens”.  Perhaps you’ve even said it.
And the reality is that crap does in fact infiltrate, invade and affect our lives. In the face of said circumstances we have a choice. Too often I find myself caught between anger and feeling victimized when the unexpected arises, stirring things up in my world. It’s SO easy to point fingers at any and every thing outside of myself in those moments.
It’s so easy to point out the JERKS in the room.
Monday I went into a time of worship with a few jerks in my crosshairs.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but God has a sense of humor. As I stood in worship, knowing that in the closets of my heart I was holding a few individuals with nooses around their necks.
God told me, “Sometimes there’s a jerk.” My initial response was, “Of course there are!”, then quickly realized that it is not the character of God AT ALL to point out the jerks in the room.
“Wait, what?” I cautiously questioned.
God then gave me a picture of a broken apendage. In order to fix the broken bones, the doctor needs to JERK the bones in order to reset them. There is a jerk, but it’s not the doctor. It’s an intentional, planned and NECESSARY jerk administered to restore and bring healing.
Perhaps like me you have been pointing out all the jerks around you.
Perhaps you’re angry, upset or hurt by people or circumstances around you.
Perhaps you consider God to be the Jerk.
Whatever it is, I challenge you to consider the idea that maybe the jerk you’ve noticed is actually for YOUR growth. Perhaps the pains you are feeling are necessary for restoration and healing in your life.
SOMETIMES THERE’S A JERK….
and sometimes it’s because we need it.
