Dear Africa,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the past three months. I have learned innumerable things while spending time with you. I would like to thank you specifically for revealing to me what having brothers and sisters around the globe truly looks like. I appreciate your hospitality and willingness to drop everything to serve. You taught me a lot about what trusting the Lord on a day-to-day basis looks like.
Above all the other things I am grateful for, I want to thank you for facilitating my growth. God has used my time with you to stretch, refine, and grow me. Because of your willingness to take a clueless 24-year-old American under your wing, God has blessed us both. Thank you.
Who knows if we shall ever meet again, but I pray that you continue to seek the Lord. God is already doing amazing things within you, and I pray you strive to grow more like him as time passes. You have so much potential.
As I prepare to move on to India, know that I will not forget you. As I came to visit you, prepared to “leave my mark”, you have ended up making deep and unforgettable impressions on me. I am not the same person I was when I first met you. Thank you for letting God use you.
Sincerely,
Kyla
P.S. I inadvertently left a few things behind. My nalgene water bottle is in a taxi somewhere in Morogoro, Tanzania. My pillow is somewhere along the side of the road in Uganda after falling out the bus window. Two sarongs shoved in a pillow case to replace the pillow I lost in Uganda, are on a bus somewhere between Moshi and Nairobi. My ipod mysteriously died somewhere in Tanzania, however I still possess it’s dead body. For those things left in your presence, please consider them gifts. I’m sure you will put them to use.
