to shift your focus
what do you love?
what are you most passionate about?
what do you hate?
what do you think about most throughout your day?
maybe one of these:
paying the bills, the next meal, your schedule, your family,
CNN, politics, FOX News
gas prices, living green, natural disasters, disease,
religion, entertainment,
or perhaps your favorite song just plays on the jukebox in your mind to get you through the day.
I believe that you care.
I believe that you are looking outside of yourself.
I am however concerned that you may not be looking at the right stuff.
Yep, “right”….implying something is wrong.
We spend all this time staring at our pocketbooks, cell phones, computers, tvs, and mirrors, all the while the mention of “Jesus” stirs nothing within us. I can tell you that there are orphans living in the slums of the Philippines literally sleeping in their own shit, and you may be more concerned with the fact that I said a curse word than with that child’s well-being.
SOMETHING IS WRONG.
Our aversion to apathy has backfired.
We have spiraled out of control…
drifted away from the Kingdom of God like a deflating balloon let loose in the wind…
focussing all our time and energy on the temporary…
inadvertently becoming apathetic about the eternal.
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my
kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been
fighting, that I might not be delivered
over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

May our apathy lie with the things of this world
as
we invest our lives in the pursuit of God’s kingdom.
