Today I finally set foot on Cambodian soil…only 5 days and 1 hour “late”. Now, before you start analyzing my use of quotation marks, late me explain. I 100% intentionally used them to highlight that what may appear as “late” to me is in fact not late at all. You see, I believe in this thing called trusting that God’s timing is in fact perfect and that in every situation his timing ALWAYS one-ups mine.

So, although it was not my original plan to stay in Manila a few extra days, it was God’s. And although I didn’t plan to sleep on a padded bench in a hospital room for 4 nights while my brother Mike dealt with kidney stones, God was there. Despite the fact that the squad proceeded to Cambodia with whom we had originally hoped to travel with, God had a different idea.
After spending 6 days walking alongside Mike through the process of physical pain, mental exhaustion(both of us), cabin fever (both of us), re-booking airline tickets, and 2 days of travel it is SO clear that God has been with us the whole way. I think this was a classic case of God putting us outside of our comfort zones. Clever God, clever. God used both Mike and I like iron sharpening iron…but perhaps in a different sense than you might first imagine. You see, when we get down to the nitty-gritty, spending a decent amount of time with a person, you get to see the good the bad and the ugly. Fortunately we live in a community of grace and speaking the truth out of love is something we do. So, in our moments of frustration or exhaustion or whatever, God used Mike and I to be the mirror for each other to see ourselves in ways we perhaps do not normally see. Genius God. Naturally it’s in these moments that we grow. Unexpected growth.
So yeah, we got here a few days later than expected, but So, after walking through that process I believe it only appropriate to note that we actually arrived in Cambodia right on time.
