I am 24, single, with no near future plans of bearing children. I do, however come from a large family with five siblings, four of which are married. This has already over doubled the attendance at our family get-togethers. The most recent addition to our family was not another spouse, but a little 7lb 7oz Mason. So, I am officially an aunt!

Although Mason is my first nephew, he will not be the first to call me Auntie. When I was a Freshman in college a friend and I decided to adopt a sponsor child for our dorm floor. We selected a four-year-old little boy named Abhay from India. Although a noble idea, the floor adoption didn’t really happen, so I decided to adopt little Abhay as my own.

So, here I am six years later receiving colored pictures, cards, and letters addressed to “Auntie Kyla”. It is amazing to me how much I have learned from Abhay. I am so excited to have the opportunity to visit India to learn more about his culture!

Although Mason will be the first to call me Aunt, he cannot fill the space in my heart occupied by a little boy from India.
