Last month in Ecuador we had the opportunity to go to a crisis prevention center in Quito called Salva Una Vida or Save a life in English. And to give you a bit of a shock, it’s only one of two in all of Ecuador. This nonprofit organization looks to help those young women who are looking for an alternative to abortion. It is lead by the wonderful couple of Carlos and Karen and are passionate about their love for Jesus Christ. I had a chance to talk with both Carlos and Karen and they gave me some interesting facts about abortion in Ecuador. In Ecuador, abortion is actually ILLEGAL, however that does not mean it doesn’t happen. Karen showed me an advertisement they had put in a newspaper giving people a number a call if they needed counsel with unplanned pregnancy. Below their advertisement were a couple other adverts that in words said the same thing however they were actually for helping people who want to have an abortion. That’s very disheartening. Because it’s illegal it is hard to count how many abortions happen but it is estimated apparently that 120,000 abortions happen each year in Ecuador. This blog is a call to prayer for what is going on in Ecuador and to pray for those who are fighting against abortion like Karen and Carlos. They greatly want to help those young women who are thinking about abortion but to also help those who have been wounded by it already. Their mission is to counsel those young women and men and to share the love of God with that as well. If you could pray for the situation in Ecuador, pray that the churches in the city would rise up and partner with Salva Una Vida, and pray that a young couple would come to work at Salva Una Vida and help Karen and Carlos it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
