This isn’t anything profound but I found it rather ironic and entertaining. Do you ever remember sitting in a classroom when the teacher/professor is doing a roll call and they get to name from which the person is from another country other than the U.S and they completely obliterate the name? So they kids at our ministry site asked me what my name was, which I answered in my best O’merican voice, “Kurt.” The kids laughed and asked , “Que?” So I repeated myself and then started a spurt of Ecuadorian children trying their best to say Kurt which from their best attempts sounded more like KOWRT. It kind of astonished me considering I have a four letter name but I had forgotten my Spanish from back in high school and one of my teammates reminded me of how vowels are sounded. In Spanish, vowels really only have one sound as opposed to the fifteen in the English language. Eventually one of the kids just decided to call me “Mister.” Which I really have no problem with since I can’t remember any of their names. But for added funniness, I also found something else rather entertaining. I’m a rather hairy person. I’ve kinda got monkey arms and legs and so the kids like to pet me. I’m not really what to think of it but it doesn’t bother me that much either so I just let it fly.
