So we are safe in Haiti..but only by
Gods grace and a whole bunch of interceding prayer.
We left SanJuan at 4am …took a bus to
Santa Domingo and then headed to Porta Prince. Crossing the border
was rather interesting…as we had to get off the bus..show our
passport to the DR side..get back on the bus…get off..show our
passport to the Haiti side then wait for finance people to exchange
money..as customs checked our bags…interesting!… We got to PP
extremly late..like 4 hours late! We got there about 8pm and headed
to Fedja, Haiti where we are staying at a Orphanage. The bus driver
named Bodeler said we had about a hour and a half drive home..and boy
was it crazy….we traveled up through the mountains in a huge school
bus….turning turn after turn and listening to some metal pole roll
from side to side of the bus and making a banging noise..there was no
way we were sleeping! (P.S…u would think travel days are a day for
rest..umm nope!) After reaching towards the top of the mountain we
came to a street where we had to turn..but there was a truck stuck in
the mud…so Markus our contact helped move it out of the way…well
front of that there was another truck in the way..so we had to edge
the bus through….as we were doing this…I could see these people
at eye level cooking and chillen on what seemed to be there roof or
something…Michelle said “hey will u should grab that food” We
passed them up and about midway I hear…bannnngg..screaming…and
scrapppe…as the bus is jerking and scraping aross the people I just
seen at eye level. We moved up a lil farther and I looked back and
the roof thing was gone. Talk about ohhh crap! Our contact and
busdriver got off the bus and checked things out…then the bus
driver got back on the bus and repositioned it to try to get on the
street we were aiming for..well as hes trying to move this bus he
almost hit another house and a tree..hense these houses are really
close to each other. Once we get the bus on the right street the bus
driver stops the bus gets out and joins Markus..also their friend was
with them named Malek…n he got of the bus too…So suddenly I see
out to my right about 20 haitians that look very angry and are
yelling at the bus.. then a fight breaks out…then a few start
banging on the bus door..it was scary…we have 6 white americans and
20 angry haitians screaming at us on the bus and 3 haitian friends we
barely know that are MIA. Blake started handing out his knives and
im thinking what am I gonna do?…how am I gonna use this lil pocket
knife?….Talk about interceding for your life…ive never been so
scared and praying to God so much for my life…Then the back door to
the bus opens and we see a guy scrambling around …first thing I
could think of was Oh God here it goes….he starts moving our
bags…and im thinking oh crap we are being robbed…turns out its
Malek getting one of those annyoing steel rods..and im thinking oh
crap theres about to be something going down n its not good. He
ended up standing In front of the bus infront of the angry mob and
held the rod in his hand. I started to pray for the peace to be
still…thats all I could say over and over was PEACE BE STILL…
about 30 minutes later ,Markus comes through the back door and we
started questioning him…he said that someone was on there way to
pick us up and the police were coming too. They got there about
10minutes later and they all disappeared again. Meanwhile the mob
drifted down and finally went away for a little while…until the
police came back..The mob wanted us to leave the bus there…but it
wasnt safe for us bc we had all our stuff with us so we left with the
police and the contacts and they took us to the orpanage. It was a
crazy night..Makel, Markus and the police went back and they left the
bus at the police station until the mornig. They are still trying to
figure out all the details..the people are saying they want $350 and
I kinda feel like we should help them with this since they were
coming to get us and we were late and Boedler cant drive well in the
nighttime, and it was nighttime by the time we left. They also said
a couple people were hurt…so please help us pray that we can come
up with some money to give them…we don’t really have it so we may
have to go without food or something a few days…so please be in
prayer over all parties involved.
