I cannot pinpoint an exact moment when my thoughts began to drift towards international service. Perhaps it is a collection of experiences and memories that have landed me here. This desire did not come from a cosmic epiphany but a series of repetitive and obedient steps. I followed logic reasoning and ended up here with a life changing result; go and serve, go and teach, go and learn. Service to me does not mean that I step off a plane into a fully accommodated hotel room and once a month visit a low-income community. I am aware that I am part of a generation where convenience overpowers commitment and the result is often desired more than the work needed to get there. However, I believe in a generation of peace-makers; a generation that looks up from their phones and into the eyes of those they are humbling themselves to serve. I believe that knowledge is power and that the more I learn, the more I am responsible to share. There is a domino effect that needs to happen in the consumption and production of information. We cannot continue to fold our arms and shake our heads at circumstances without putting any foot forward and marching towards a tomorrow of eternal significance. I want to step outside of my comfort zone and redraw the lines that I was afraid to cross. I want to surrender myself for the sake of His children because I know that time is short and vitality is valuable. Christ says, and I believe, that there is worth in the forgotten, potential in the powerless, and knowledge in the uneducated. I have no excuse to stay and all the desire to go. Would you join me on this Kingdom-centered journey so that His name could be known among ears that have never heard the word “Jesus?”
