To think Launch is approaching. I am only 30% funded and I pray that you find it in your heart to give. Help me spread God’s love to those around the world. If I don’t reach my Fundrasing goal I will not be able to travel the entire 11 months. Please help. As of current the plan is to head down to Florida on the 6th and we fly out for Colombia the 12th. Please keep my squad and I in your prayers. Yes, the nerves are starting to kick in. I’m the mean time please enjoy the post!
Have you ever heard the “Give your heart to Jesus” story? This story is perhaps one of my favorite camp skits.
A girl wanders around life aimlessly. Things seem to be going relatively fine. No worries or complaints. But then God calls to her asking her to give her heart to him. After a time or two she agrees to give Jesus her heart. She is full of love and joy and energy, for the Lord is with her. I’m so Happy!
Not long after a boy comes into the scene. “Man she’s pretty cute” he thinks to himself. He then asks for her heart, but she declines, after all she gave her heart to Jesus. He works his way to impress her and she finally gives in. Okay she says while giving her heart to him. Just when she thought things were all hunky-dory her trust for him disappeared as he took her heart and smashed it, crushed it, ripped it to shreds and threw it in the fire.
Her heart was destroyed. She was broken. Hurt. How could someone play her like that. Someone she trusted and truly cared for. He just took her heart and ripped it to pieces, not caring about the damage he left behind.
In her pain she heard God’s voice “Give your heart to Jesus”
The girl was shocked. “You want my heart even though it’s broken and in pieces?” “Did you see what he did to it?” “But it’s damaged…you want it anyway?”
God persisted, and she picked up all her damaged pieces, in and out of the fire, and threw her heart back to Jesus.
Her heart instantly filled with that love joy and energy she first felt. Though her heart was no longer perfect she felt comfort for the pain she suffered. She continued to live her life filled with God’s love. I’m so Happy!
But God wasn’t done. She ran into that boy who destroyed her. Embarrassed by what he did, he tried to keep his distance. God called to the girl, “tell the boy to give his heart to Jesus” she wasn’t so sure, remembering what he did. he isn’t very nice. But she did it anyway. The boy was skeptical at first but the girl persisted that he should give his heart to Jesus. After a time or two he gives in. He throws his heart to Jesus and is instantly amazed at the joy in his heart. We‘re So happy! Overjoyed the boy and girl listen and hear God ask one more request. That they ask everyone to give their heart to Jesus. And we end with a big party. YAY Jesus!
Clearly this is my own sum of the story itself, but as of recent I realize just how relatable the story actually is. How many times do we fall head over heals for someone and blind ourself from God?
We are so quick to give our heart away. To think we understand, to think we truly know and trust someone. To think this is it. Then, We get dragged into a fantasy world away from God.
It doesn’t always work how you fantasize. We forget that we must always put God first. And when we don’t, we get burned. Broken. Confused about what went wrong.
Maybe it’s not because you gave your heart to the wrong person. Maybe it’s because you stopped giving It to God. Maybe the phrase “it’s not you it’s me” can actually come into play because of your current relationship with God. Think about it, if God is at the core of any relationship, wouldn’t that make the relationship and the love a million times greater? You can’t beat God’s Love, after all he gave his only son just for us. And even though we continue to mess up, time and time again, he forgives us and continues to love us.
Life is like a roller coaster ride. When nothing seems to be going right, look in the mirror. Reorganize your life. It’s not the moment that things fall into place. No matter how much you think it will, it won’t without God. Don’t rush your happily ever after because it can’t happen without him. How can you put him in your life? Hopefully in that moment of looking in the mirror, you realize God is all you need. Because his love is greater than any love here on earth. It might take some work, but every relationship takes work. Weather with a friend or significant other, or God. You have to truly want it and work to make things even better.
I hope you enjoyed the story as much as me. Now just think about watching the skit where the girl has a guys voice and the guy a girls voice. Around a campfire. With unskilled actors out to make campers smile While embarrassing themselves in the process. (Hint try out camp life, be a camp counselor today! Don’t know where to look just ask and I can give you suggestion!)
I pray that you all have a blessed New Year and that if your 2017 didn’t turn out too hot that you keep trying in 2018 and you continued to work on your relationship with God.
