January 12th
I will be traveling to the beautiful South American country Colombia! I have waited for what seems like eternity to begin this journey and it is becoming real. That being said, I have decided to share with you a little about the country that will be my home for a month.
Once I arrive in this country, my squad and I will join together and participate in a Training Camp. Most routes are required to attend a training camp in Georgia before launching to their first country. My route is different. Our squad is called Fusion, which means we will be headed into these countries with very little plans and direction, relying on where God wants us to go. We will spend the first week or so training and preparing for the months to come in our very first country! Talk about diving in head first!
My squad is full of encouraging and loving people, and I cannot wait to meet them all in person!
About Colombia
–Colombia is found on the northwestern part of South America, sharing a land border with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru. The country also borders the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the only country in South America to do so.
–Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, is the second largest capital city in South America and at 8661 ft is one of the highest capital cities in the world. Colombia is also under a Democratic Constitutional Republic government, where a president is elected by the people.
–The Country is full of Art and Color, perfect for someone such as myself who majored in Art. Graffiti is also encouraged which decorated the cities.
-Colombia is part of the Ring of Fire, a group of countries in the Pacific Ocean vulnerable to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
–From the Andes Mountains to the Caribbean coastline and the Amazon Rain forest, Colombia is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world.
-It is also home to unreached tribes, a large student population rapidly rejecting the Gospel, and thousands of children living on the streets.
-Colombia sits at the crossroads of Central and South America, allowing for a widespread of cultures as vast as its natural resources. The nation is also influenced by Native American, Latin, European, African, Middle Eastern, and American cultures.
-Public school fees cost around 4 percent of the fees for private schools. In urban areas, schools tend to be overcrowded. In rural areas, facilities are inadequate and teachers may not show up for classes.
-The phrase ‘don’t offer papaya’ is one of the rules of the street and warns that if you leave your valuables (‘papaya’) in a vulnerable position, someone will take it.
– Colombian women don’t hesitate to change their bodies if they’re dissatisfied. The country is currently the 5th most popular hub for cosmetic surgery.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me thus far. A Special Thanks to Coach Sargent, I will never be able to thank you enough for all of your support and encouragement through college and now as I embark on this mission!
