Today we are celebrating Mother’s Day. However, after a two hour phone call with my parents, I just want to celebrate both of them.
(Side note: this is a blog I never thought I would write, yet I feel honored to be able to write it.)
My parents are wonderful…the bees knees, top-of-the-line, world class, one of a kind, nuts, goofy goobers, crown jewels, the best thing since sliced bread. They are a pair of aces and are best friends if fact, they are my best friends.
(I’m laughing at myself right now because I would never say any of this aloud, but that doesn’t make it any less true.)
These two lovely humans have been by my side since day one. Growing up, they taught me about the Lord and they’ve always pointed me towards the light. They’ve always prayed for me daily.
At age 22, I know I am where I am because of their tireless love and nurturing hearts for me.
Throughout my life, my parents have taught and shown me many things. Some I take to heart, some I ignore, some I try to ignore but they stick in my brain anyway.
Proverbs 6:20-23 highlights this very thing
“My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you wake, they will talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light..”
I laugh because there are so many times I can hear my parents voices in the back of my mind.
Guys, my parents’ love for me is the thing I use to even begin to process the Lord’s love for me.
Imagine all of what I just said about my mom and dad applying to the Lord and then multiply that by infinity.
The Lord gave me incredible earthy parents who have hearts filled with an incredible depth of love for me, but my Heavenly Father’s love far surpasses that.
And that’s why instead of celebrating my parents in their presence, I’m in Malaysia…on the opposite side of the world from them thankful for their love.
Have you ever experienced a love like this from your parents?
If you have, celebrate them. If you haven’t, know that your Heavenly Father loves you deeply and His love far surpasses anything this earth can give us.
