Day 3 in Draganesti-Olt, Romania:
The house is abnormally quiet as most of the people are out in the town. As I walk up the stairs toward my bedroom, I reflect on the things I’ve accomplished and the things left to do for the day. With coffee in one hand and water for painting in the other, I push open the bedroom door to find my squadmate lying on the bunk bed.
Entering further into the room I ponder on where to settle in as Averi explains that a mouse has been spotted in a nearby bag of snacks. She had gone near, but the mouse escaped underneath the bunk beds.
Excited to see such a creature, I quickly fall to my knees looking for the mouse. “Ugh. I don’t see it.” I exclaimed.
Quickly giving up in my pursuit of the mouse, I settle on the floor with my back rested against the bed. As I sit in peace I begin to paint a picture of a cat. Personally I believe I am a cat. Not a literal cat, but I feel as though we have similar personalities. Anyways, I digress.
A few minutes after being lost in thought and painting, Averi whispers, “Kristi, the bag is moving again!”
My cat senses activate! As I tip-toe over to the bag of snacks, my eyes widen with determination.
“It’s in the bag of cookies,” Averi whispers.
I reach for the bag of cookies and begin to lift it up. “It’s in there, I see it!” Averi exclaims.
Dropping the bag of cookies, I quickly scoop up the entire grocery bag of snacks and prance away! Through the hall, down the stairs, and out the door I fling the bag across the courtyard.
In fear and confusion the mouse proceeds to hop out and scurry across to the other side of the courtyard. It then sits there and watches me as I gather up the scattered snacks and bags and make my way back inside.
Feeling proud, I hurry to the kitchen where many are gather to recount my story. No one finds it as exciting as I do, but I lived it and I survived! And now I shall climb back up the staircase to my coffee and painting.
In conclusion:
The mouse was actually very cute and very tiny.
I’m pretty sure it will just find its way back into the house.
I am a cat. Meow.
