I think sometimes we forget how powerful words can be. They can make someone’s day or just as quickly ruin it. They can share the good news of Jesus Christ or they can spread lies. They can heal wounds or make them worse. They can bring life or death. Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of left and death! I don’t know about you but I want to be someone who speaks life, and love, and Jesus.
As a team we daily set aside time for feedback. It’s a time where we can highlight the good we see in each other and celebrate that, as well as a time to call each other higher with constructive feedback. I’m not going to lie for someone like me this can be a very intimidating situation, which it was at first, but I’ve come to embrace and appreciate it.
One feedback I received was from one of the squad leaders was “being humble doesn’t always mean being quite.” Mind blown! I don’t know why I had confined humility to quite submission but I had. My team leader took it a step further and shared that “silence can be withholding life.” If the tongue has the power of life but you choose not to speak it you are choosing to withhold life. I had never thought about it that way before but I could see the truth in it. My teammates all chimed in and said we like when you speak up it’s usually a “mic drop” moment and we want more.
So how do I break this pattern? How do I learn to speak up in humility? How do I speak life more intentionally? Luke 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. If I want to speak life and love and for my voice to sound like Jesus, then I need to fill my heart with Jesus!!
Please join me in prayer as I grow and learn in this journey. Pray the I would find my humble Jesus voice! Pray for a boldness to speak up when needed and the discernment to know when to be silent.
