I’m sick and tired of this individualistic society we live in
Oh so YOU fell out of love?
No problem leave!
They’re not satisfying YOU in option A, B or C?
Screw them
Its not benefiting YOU?
Why are you still around?
It becomes all about ME, ME, and ME
I think we’ve lost the meaning of love
We base it on emotions on self-fulfillment, pride etc
What if Love is SELF sacrificing, kind, patient, doesn’t envy, keeps no record of wrong, protects, hopes, trusts…
All of it deletes YOU
The depth of Agape
The true meaning of happiness
Something everyone is trying to achieve but the ME had enslaved you
Clearly I’m frustrated. Especially walking out of my sociology class after a discussion about love. We throw the word “love” left and right causally. Some cultures rarely say it, while others are pre-arranged and/forced into it. The Greeks just needed sorted into four categories: Agápe, Éros, Philia, & Storge. Guess it was getting overwhelming for them haha
I started to research all the 11 countries I will be visiting again and again I see brokenness
In Thailand young girls are forced into sexual slavery to support their families
In Argentina, a women is murdered every 31 hours in domestic violence incident
Colombia ranked one of the highest homicide rate in the world
And so forth…
In the U.S. 3.3 million children who experienced sexual, neglect, emotional abuse
Every culture, every country, every person is broken. I am one of them.
So what IS love?
In my sociology class the professor voiced her argument that if someone doesn’t make you happy it’s ok to leave them, basing relationships on emotions. Well that sounds harsh, but she states the obvious. Look around.
Broken relationships all around. Divorced, beaten, betrayed, cheated, lied, lonely etc. We keep hoping we will find love and satisfaction in our friends, family, spouse, significant other etc.
But God put it as a command “love one another as I have loved you” John 15v12
So He died for us
One word. Sacrifice.
Sacrifice yourself to someone with time, money, energy, you fill in the blank. Putting their desires FIRST and foremost. Easy? NOWAY! What about ME?
Well…what about you?
Love dwells in selfless hearts.
