During training camp we formed our teams and shortly after that we needed to decided on a team name. All of us had similar ideas and words that defined BOLD. Everyone needed to practice boldness more in their lives for the greater good. Mine was to speak BOLDLY about what and whom I believe in.
So what did we do? Dove into Greek terms that had a collaboration of what we want to be BOLD in.
Parrhesia was the word.
The term parrhesia first appears in Greek literature in Euripides and can be found and used in ancient Greek texts all throughout the end of the fourth century and during the fifth century A.D. The literal meaning of the word is to speak everything and by extension “to speak freely,” to “to speak boldly,” or “boldness.” It implies not only freedom of speech, but the obligation to speak the truth for the common good, even at personal risk.
I’m looking forward to the next 11 months for God to be breaking and molding me and living up to our team name.
