One day our contact, Andre, decided we should all hike to this village where he had started a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Now when we set out on this journey, I was thinking it would be a time for us to see more of Moldova and that’s all. However we came to find out Andre had been praying for a year that someone would come along who was willing to make the 13 mile hike with him. Little did we know that this long hike was an answer to one man’s prayer. How Great is our God that He even cares about those desires we think are small. The hike to the rehabilitation center was not easy, but so worth every moment of it. Once we got there, Andre took us to this huge river that borders the Ukraine, and we all took turns jumping into the water. After hiking all day with our daypacks the coldness of the water was so refreshing.

The next day we had the task of “macheting” the corn field next to the rehabilitation center. I don’t think I have ever held a machete before and I know those around me were a little scared too! I had never worked in a corn field before either, but I was excited to learn and to help. We definitely all had fun taking a whack out of the corn stalks. It showed me that no matter what needs to be done, you can choose to do it with a joyful heart knowing you’re ultimately serving God and not man. What we thought was just going to be a long hike and a day’s work in a corn field turned out to be much more than that. God answered Andre’s prayer without us even knowing about it. With a willing heart God can use us to be a blessing upon others.
