“Radical”… how many of us are truly that?!?! We live in a society where we have it all (even though we think we don’t). We have vehicles that get us from one place to another, most of us have our own computers (including the one that is placed on my lap while I sit on the couch in an Air conditioned house), we have a different outfit for every occasion, and we have comfortable places to live. BUT in less than 5 months all of that is going to change for me. I will either have to walk or depend on some crazy driver to get me around a foreign country, I will leave all technology behind, my clothes for one year will be packed in a backpack (when right now I can’t get it all to fit in a closet), and each night’s sleep will be a new experience. The things I have come so accustom to will be stripped away, and I will learn to live on only the necessities.

In the book “Radical,” David Platt gives real stories of people giving it all away to follow their God. These people put their lives on the line daily in “radical” ways just to be obedient to the one they love. I might not be going to that extreme, but I will soon be leaving the people I love, the things I enjoy, and the places that I call home to set out on a journey for Christ. I pray that I can be half the person that Platt talks about in his book.

“if you follow him, you abandon everything- your needs, your desires, and even your family.” (pg 10)
