I MADE IT! This week
is officially the half way point for the race (and Africa). This trip has
offered me more than I could ever expect or even explain. The spiritual growth
I have experienced has changed my life forever. The friendships I have made
will be with me for a lifetime. The adventures I have endured will never be
forgotten. I praise God for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what the
second half of this journey entails.
Lessons learned
I’m learning to see
people through God’s eyes and not my own. It’s easy to judge someone from the
way the look, act, or live, BUT we are called to see past that into their
hearts. A lot times, the way people act is just a reflection of a deeper issue.
I have been challenged this year to look through God’s eyes into the hearts of
my teammates and ministry contacts to see who they really are.
I’m learning what it
is like to LOVE and BE LOVED! For years, I have worked on a point system. I
thought I had to earn people’s love and they had to do things to earn my love.
This is NOT how God works! God loves us despite who we are or what we do. This
is nothing we can do to earn His love, but he loves us anyways… “I loved you as the Father loved me. Now remain in my love” John 15:9
“Come to me, all who are weary and laden, and I will give you rest.” Matt 11:28… The first priority is our relationship with
God. It’s great to serve, disciple, and love others, but we must not forget
about ourselves. I’m learning what it looks like to be still and rest in his
presence. It’s ok to take a day off, lay in my hammock, or stay back while
everyone else goes out so I can have alone time with God!…
