I am in love with the people here! Sounds silly….but truly, it is going to be hard for me to leave!! We have started to get so close to the kids and workers. We’ve still been doing a lot of the same things that I wrote in my last blog….still mixing cement – we’re getting pretty darn good at it too if I might add, ha….you think I can I put that on my next resume? Haha. Anyway, I’ve started to do other things as well like helping out in the kitchen more and a lot with the kids. I have LOVED all of it!!
Here are some of my favorite moments so far:
– Working in the kitchen with some of the ladies that live here. They like to play music while they work and we’ve had a couple little dance sessions with them in the middle of dishes and fixing food (they laugh a lot at my dancing – guess those lessons didn’t pay off)…..so fun! 🙂
– Getting to know one of the girls here, Elsa. She is 21 and has been here since she was 9. She now helps take care of the kids. We’ve definitely had a special bond and some “special” conversations….she only speaks Spanish (but understands some English) and I don’t speak much Spanish, ha….sometimes our communication makes me laugh a lot, but I LOVE it! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know her and her story more. Oh and she’s helping me with my Spanish, haha.
– Taking a nap with Duña, one of the most adorable kids ever, in a hammock outside. The girl is precious! She’s the youngest one here (1 year old).
There are SO MANY more moments I could write about that I’ve loved here….but then this blog would never end! 🙂 It’s just been so great getting to know the people here. They are all so open and welcoming. Most of the kids here are older so we’ve been able to really hang out and get to know them. There are only 3 kids here that are really young….Julietta (4 years old), Brittana (3 years old), and then Duña (also Julietta’s sister). I should tell you, almost all of them here actually have families (some still see them every so often). The reason they are here is because their families either didn’t want them or didn’t have the money to take care of them. It’s a sad situation but the kids are SO happy here! I should also add that this place…as Megan put it….is a PARADISE compared to the last orphanage we were at….truly. They grow most of their veggies and fruits here, have a good bit of land, a child psychologist that works here 4 days out of the week …and MANY others that work here that care for and LOVE them! I think a piece of my heart will forever be here……
