So here’s what I’ve come up with so far in regards to gear that I’ll need. I don’t have specifics on everything so please just message me if you feel led to assist with anything I didn’t specify. It was suggested that some people may already have some of these items they are willing to donate rather than purchasing brand new items. My only request for consideration with donating things you may already have is that some of these things will be used a lot and for a long time so the condition is an important factor. Weight is a major consideration, and again, things have to last, so I have done some research and made selections accordingly; therefore, I created a gift registry at REI so you can see the specific things I’ll need from there. - Tent (a.k.a. my new mobile home) and footprint
- Rain cover for backpack and daypack
- Daypack (will be added soon)
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping Pad
- Hammock
- Mosquito Net
- Rain jacket (will be added soon)
- Pocket Knife
- Dishes (will be added soon)
- Travel towels
Other needed items are:
- Light weight laptop (message me)
- My current laptop is big and heavy. I’ve been informed that netbooks and such are not good substitutes on the race as they break easily. I will be using this laptop for blogging; loading and storing pictures; watching movies; Skyping with family/friends; creating who knows what with photo presentations, etc; and many other uses!
- External hard drive (message me)
- I’m a picture taker and will need somewhere to store 11 month’s worth of unforgettable experiences, among other things.
- Small speakers (Tweakers brand): These are used for iPod worship, movies, etc
- Good sports watch
- Possibly a guitar or ukulele
There will be lots of other little things I’ll need. So if you’re not sure or are unable to get anything specific, but would still like to help specifically with gear/supplies, Visa cards are always a good option that can be used anywhere. Most of the items from the REI registry will be needed by training camp which is Oct 12-19. Some other things are not as urgent. Thanks again for your awesome support!
