Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow; black and white
They are precious in His sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

I’m sure this song is familiar to a lot of you.  My mom taught this to me at a very young age and we sang it all the time at church when I was growing up.  The song states that Jesus loves all of the children, no matter their color, and the implication is that we as Christians, striving to be like Jesus, should view them all this way too.

I have thought of this song a few times while on this journey this year, as we have travelled to places where the children do not share my skin color, language, or culture.  I have struggled with the fact that most of the children in these countries where we have worked will never have the same advantages or opportunities that most children at home have simply because of the country that they were born in.  Just doesn’t quite seem fair.

However, I have been faced with an even harsher reality this month in India, and it has burdened my heart.  We are working with Sarah’s Covenant Homes (SCH) in Ongole, India and they provide a home for abandoned special needs children.  These children suffer from various disabilities and illnesses at different levels of severity and a large percentage of them are immobile.  These children have greater physical, emotional, and mental challenges than most children and often also have deformities.  The harsh reality is that these children were essentially just “thrown away” because they were thought to have no value . . . incomprehensible!

By their society, they are considered the lowest of the low & completely unworthy of love and investment.  This is NOT how God sees them .  As the song says . . . Jesus loves ALL the children of the world, and this includes those with a few more challenges.  As Christians, as we strive to see others as Christ does and to respond in love as He commands, we cannot forget about these children . . . especially these children.

The SCH ministry is a wonderful example of extending Christ’s love to these children in a tangible and beneficial manner.  They are doing so much for these children, but there is so much more that they desire to do and could do with your help.  Please check out their website http://www.schindia.com/, and their sponsorship campaign which just launched today, and consider how you might be a part of demonstrating God’s love to these children.

I started this blog with a familiar song, but I want to close by challenging you to view that song in a more serious and personal manner than you might have in the past.  This song represents unification in the way that God views ALL of His children . . . with precious love; and I extend it as a challenge to each of you to do the same and to prayerfully consider what this looks like in your daily life.
