This week has been completely devoted to two conferences. The first conference was the celebration of YWAM’s 50th. To start off the conference they had us help with a tradition meal for the Maori (natives) which is called a hangi. This was made with pumpkins, potatoes, chicken, pork, stuffing and yams. Once all the food was prepared we watched as the men put hot coals on the bottom of a pit, and covered the coals with the food. It was then covered with wet cloths and covered with dirt.
When dinner was in the ground we did a traditional greeting called hongi. (both hangi and hongi are said the same way). This is a greeting where the two people touch noses together and share one breath. Since we are all created by God this is the breath of God. It is a very close meeting.
