The other day my team, “Again for the first time”, went to a youth prison to share the Gospel and give care packages. This was not what I was expecting as it was not the same as in the Philippines.
This prison requires all the immates to sit in a few lines while we speak to them (we had them stand up when we taught them the moves to “O Happy Day”, and “Pharoah Pharoah”). This time we were not able to talk and find out anything about the young immates. This had me taken aback a little. I thought, “How am I suppose to have a heart for these young prisoners when I can not get to know them personally?”
This however did happen. As I saw a few of them really enjoy our music choices and then they really care about the drama we performed, my heart broke for them. I did not know how they ended up in this prison, but I know that they need to know the love of God and I was to show them that love.
The most impactful moment of the visit was when we handed out our care packages. Inside is a tract for them to read and learn more about God and salvation. As I looked around most of the kids did not care about the candy, or soap; they cared about the tract inside and read most of it before we left.
