Calves burning. Whole body sweating. Sun burning. Saturday afternoon, we decided to climb Kaning’ina mountain, the prayer mountain of Mzuzu. We were warned by our hosts that the climb would be pretty hard. All of us thought we could handle it since we tackled the fitness test at training camp. Plus, we had been working out here and there.
We drove to the base of the mountain with Pemphero and Rabson and realized we were in for a climb. There’s a reason it’s called prayer mountain. Yes, it’s a great place to praise the Lord, but takes straight up prayer to climb.
There a three sections that are divided by incline. The first part already made my legs feel like they’re going to fall off. Imagine climbing 15 floors of stairs. Yeah, the burn was real. The second part wasn’t as bad, but my legs still felt like jello. There was a resting area before the third part. It pretty much said, “Rest now, you’re going to need it.” The boys told us to pray because we would need all the strength of God to get us up the last leg. *Sob* They were so right. I don’t know how it could’ve been worse than the first part, but it was. We were literally climbing up rocks at some points. And when we thought we were done, we still had to walk across the top of the mountain to our spot. But the view was WORTH IT!
We tackled that mountain and spent the rest of the morning in fellowship and praise. Sometimes, we have mountains in our lives that are hard to overcome. And we think we need to pray before we tackle it or after we reach the top. But really, God wants us to pray all the while. To ask for guidance and spend time with Him. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians? 4:6
