Did you know…
that roughly 4,711 children in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System are identified as homeless?
that the national graduation rate for homeless children is only 25%?
that it is estimated that the number of street children is likely to run in the tens of millions across the world with some estimates as high as 100 million?
that there are an estimated 12,000 street kids in Zimbabwe?
I didn’t.
I didn’t know these alarming statistics until I started to research. My heart didn’t break for these children until I saw their faces and heard their stories. We live in a country where we are blessed, yet unaware. Part of changing these statistics is simply making people aware of the problem. We have a big problem. Kids shouldn’t be living on the street. They shouldn’t have to worry about finding food to eat and a place to sleep. They should be happy and cared for.
We can help. We can end this.
Some of the ministries I could work with on the world race are focused on street kids. They take these children off the street. They provide them with a warm place to stay, food to eat, and clean clothes. They give them an education and rehabilitation. Most importantly they love these kids!
In Charlotte, Give Fifty One is working to end child homelessness. We are partnering with local ministries, providing direct aid, and raising awareness. We will end Child homelessness in Charlotte and then globally.
You can help both happen. I’m excited to be selling watches as a fundraiser for the World Race. What better partnership could there be than an organization that works to end child homelessness and a mission trip sending people to help end it? For each watch I sell $10 goes towards my World Race Funds. Simply enter ‘Bezy’ in the coupon code when checking out from the online store or buy watches from me. If you are currently fundraising for the World Race and looking for fundraising ideas that are meaningful too, I encourage you to email [email protected] to get more information about setting up a fundraiser with us as well.
Together we will end child homelessness!
