I just wanted to give you a look into what travel days can look like! Last week we made our way from Zimbabwe to Haiti and our time was filled with bus/plane tickets, movies, talking to strangers, passport stamps, and grace.
Travel Day #1
Thursday, April 19
We spent our day saying goodbye to some lovely people before heading to the bus station. Our bus left Bulawayo, Zimbabwe at 4:04pm and arrived at the border at 7:55pm. We stood in line for a couple of hours to make our way through Zimbabwe and stood in another line to enter South Africa. After getting our stamps and getting luggage scanned we got back on the bus and finally made it all the way through the border.
7:55pm border crossing to exit Zimbabwe
9:01pm border crossing to enter South Africa
Travel Day #2
Friday, April 20
12:16am leaving the border and head to Pretoria South Africa
8:26am arrive in pretoria, South Africa
Hang out for the day at BEAM Africa. With a day to spend I thought I’d be hanging around at the campground but a few friends asked if I wanted to go to a lion park and I couldn’t say no!
Travel Day #3
Saturday, April 21
12:58 leave Pretoria, South Africa
2:11pm arrive to Johannesburg Airport
7:35pm flight (8hrs) from Johannesburg to Abu Dahbi.
Travel Day #4
Sunday, April 22nd
9:59am flight (13.5 hrs) from Abu Dahbi, UAE to New York! With a 7hr time change we arrived to New York at 4pm the same day. Let jet lag settle in. Wr had a 16 hour layover to explore the city and my tummy chose Chipotle and my heart chose Target. 🙂 It was a nice pause in our travels to get a little piece of America.
Travel Day #5
Monday April 23
7:03 am flight (4hrs) from New York to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Arrived to Haiti at 11:13am
and waited around town to pick up a couple more missionaries. We left Port-au-Prince at 3:30pm and made it to our final destination, Montrouis, Haiti at 5:34pm. I’ll say I was grateful to have a bed after many travel days.
Travel days have looked similar on the race. We typically bus or train from country to country and fly from continent to continent. Carrying a 50lb hiking pack, 30lb day pack, and my guitar through it all. What an experience it has been just learning the ways of transport in different countries.
Thank you for your love and prayers. Here we are in Montrouis, Haiti serving with Supply and Multiply. Only 54 more days, I’ll be making my last travel day of the race and heading home! 🙂
Much love.
