So, there are many skills that you learn before/in college. Well, you are supposed to, at least. One of those skills is flexibility.
When I’m working at camp, I need flexibility. Kids are not consistent. Being a leader, the work is not consistent. People are not inherently consistent in their emotions, work ethic, mindset… etc. My ability to be flexible is tested every day. I would categorize myself as a flexible, easy-going individual. It tends to be a good trait to have.
When I was looking for a job, I had to be flexible. I found one at a middle school near Indianapolis, and it has been a good process. Through that process, I have learned that I can’t plan everything in advance. I had to take things as they came and plan around the new information. Somehow, it seems to be working out.
With God’s plan, I have to be flexible. God has a habit of changing everything that I believe to be true. When I think I have a plan, something “goes wrong.” When I have a plan, something takes an unexpected turn.
What I have learned is that God knows where those turns are WAY before I could even imagine a road being there. God knows how to make me learn. God knows how to keep me on my toes, and that is one of the 1000 reasons I appreciate who God is. If I knew what was coming, life would not be as interesting. I wouldn’t learn near as much. I wouldn’t have to make hard decisions. I wouldn’t take risks. God puts twists and turns in the road so that I can work through them and learn in the end.
I like not having a plan. I like seeing where God leads me. I like the unknown. It can be scary sometimes, but God has a plan far better than any I could imagine. He says it himself.
“Look at the nations; look and be amazed. For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.” Habakkuk 1:5
“This is what the Lord says – the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.” Jeremiah 33:2
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Over and over again, God says that His plan is far better than any I could ever have. I have to be flexible and open to whatever he has in store for me. Life is good when I trust in Him and the things He has planned.
Also speaking of changes in schedules, there are some changes in the countries I’ll be traveling to! I am so pumped. Here’s the current plan:
Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Botswana, South Africa, and Swaziland!
