1. People don’t move for ambulances
2. Cows wander into the street and it’s casual
3. There are sides of the road/lanes but it doesn’t really matter if you cross over
4. You eat with your hands but ONLY your right hand
5. Actually, just don’t use your left hand for anything (except the bathroom)
6. You’re in the minority if you use toilet paper
7. Never wear shoes in the house
8. Don’t say thank you constantly (especially if you’re friends), it’s offensive
9. Every food is labeled veg(etarian) or non veg and 9/10 times it will be veg
10. Expect to eat all meals later
11. You won’t be eating much dairy, get used to it American cheese lovers
12. It’s normal to be late, just hurry up and wait
13. “Praise the Lord” and “Hallelujah” are essentially just punctuation in the Christian community
14. Everyone drives mopeds/motorcycles
15. If someone says “not a problem” to you, then you’re probably doing something wrong and they’re trying to be polite
16. Don’t expect to receive many hugs, handshakes are close enough for most people here
17. If you pay for something and require change of 3 rupees or less, don’t be surprised if you’re just given candy instead of coins
18. Cars/motos will NOT stop for you when crossing the street. Dodge and run.
19. If someone tells you that a food isn’t spicy, then they’re lying. It will probably be delicious, but spicy.
20. Indian people LOVE selfies. Like a lot.
21. The power goes at at least once a day, but probably more than that.
22. Toilet and ToLet are very different things. One is a bathroom, one is a place for rent.
Overall, this month has been quite an experience. I wish I could share all of the details of my ministry but because of the fact that evangelizing is illegal in India, I can’t share much in order to protect all of my amazing hosts.
