Everyone knows the phrase "time flies" … it's a common go to when life seems to be hurrying along, there one minute and gone the next. I think that's a big reason as to why James writes in chapter 4, "what is your life? you are but a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

My question is, do we truly live with this in mind? Or do we think we have forever here on earth.

I think if we lived like today was our last day, we would enjoy the simple things a bit more.

I work at a swim school, and a few days ago I got to talk with an older woman who came in to watch her grandsons swim. I was on my way to wash the windows, and she started talking about her life. Everything from her swimming experience to parasailing to her family and grandchildren. It was a moment of simple joy- a moment that made me stop to think about how great people are. Every single person has a different life story than the one standing next to them. Different experiences, different passions, different funny moments, different things that make them happy. Different in a way that makes them unique to anyone else, yet that much more enjoyable to get to know.

The way I see it, people are the most important thing to God. He created us, He loves us, He knows us better than we know ourselves. Which means we should take time to get to know those around us, because there's something about them that's loveable.

I know I get off topic easily, and it seems like this is so. But, if people are important to God, and they have a unique story, and we only have a limited time here on earth, why would we not spend every moment we can learning and loving those that we come in contact with?

Why would we sit on facebook on our phone when someone tries to talk to us face to face?

Why would we get frustrated at someone for leaving the fridge open?

Why would we not talk to a family member because they made us angry five years ago?

Why would we spend any time regretting our past, when Jesus loves us in the moment?

Why would we waste any time worrying about what our future holds, when tomorrow isn't promised?

I'm not by any means saying life isn't frustrating or we don't get hurt. But life is short, and Jesus came to give us peace and joy amidst our every day struggles. We can't waste the time we have, it's too short.
