Last month I hung up the phone, the sun had set, the mosquitos were darting under the hem of my shirt and biting wherever they could get a chance (a regular occurrence on the WR) and I was sitting on top of a jungle gym with my co-leader Renee. The teams we were visiting had eaten and set food aside for us. We had just finished an 1.5 hr conversation about logistics and finance after a full day doing everything we could to get India visas (which still were not figured out due to new laws that were put into place after our departure from the states). Looking at Renee I shook my head thinking, 'This week is not turning out the way I had imagined- in my mind I came to visit the teams and spend time with individuals, but I really haven't seen them due to logistical/behind the scenes issues.' I could feel myself get a little frustrated when I realized and blurted out, “we are doing the things that I always wondered what squad leaders were off doing all the time.” We sat there and laughed remembering the times that we thought they were off hanging for the sake of hanging out without us.
During my next quiet time I pondered the idea of me doing things that go unseen and started to think about all the things that the Lord does on a daily basis that go unseen, unnoticed and unthanked. I literally asked Him. “What do you do up there?”
There are so many things that I know He does- being the greatest leader of all humanity the universe and all its affairs. I don't fully know… that is why I asked the question. It seems pretty immature, but heck I am immature when it comes to fully understanding God's greatness and love.
And why does He love us so much? Why does He work behind the scenes never adequately thanked, never adequately acknowledged, but maybe for a quick second as a Grammy is handed over. How do you say thank you for saving my life? For being the only god who cares? For sharing the stage with the counterfeits we put before Him, like money, success, titles, desires to be in a relationship above all else, etc. For preparing a place for us, for providing a way out of harms way, for helping us heal from the tough stuff that the world throws our way, for being our comforter, for providing the day to day needs- transportation, food, friends/family, pleasures like going on vacations, going bike riding or shopping, for work, oxygen, health, yet HE DOES. Every day! He gives us the strength to have the tough conversations with people that we need to, or the humility to say I'm sorry or the ability to give forgiveness, or the ability to express love and to find love. O how He loves us. And doesn't have to! HE HAS CRAZY LOVE FOR US. ITS CRAZY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. Thinking about it… He is the only worshiped god who LOVES HIS PEOPLE being US- Jew & Gentile!
This revelation brought me to a song called 'O Great Love of God.' by David Crowder Band. I got up from where I was sitting and started to dance, until I danced my way to a trampoline. I put the song on repeat and started jumping as high as I could in excitement. “O great Love of God!!! Who takes away the sin of all of us. Gone forever. Heaven open wide. In the resurrection, you won't be denied, bring new life to the dead and dying, you won't be denied, you will rise and sing forever.”
If you are a dancer at heart (even if you only dance at weddings) I suggest you try it. Dance to this song on youtube- in your room, backyard, around the house. It might feel weird at first, but its worth it. It's amazing! Meditate on His Crazy Love for You! It's Cray Cray and its not going anywhere.
