I would say that month 11 was the biggest test because I didn’t have a set schedule or defined ministry for the month. There were about 9 kids at La Quinta and 6 young adults/high school students and 2 adults. With no set schedule, it was basically— GET CREATIVE!
To me this month gave me a little glimpse of home. What will you do with your free time when you don’t have a ministry contact or an employer asking you to take care of different tasks? How will you utilize your time?
A year ago I had no idea what God was doing around the world. I wasn’t even sure if people were sold out for Jesus around the world (I know that sounds really ignorant, but I had never seen it first hand). Now nearing the end of my trip, I can say that God is doing amazing things in Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and Central America and is using so many faithful, loving and generous people to carry out His work. Outreach is world wide. The Holy Spirit is obviously alive throughout the world. Faithful prayers are being lifted up to our Heavenly Father at all hours/ seconds of the day. Its so beautiful to see someone pray, sing and speak about God in a language I can’t understand, especially when a translator translates, “One day (in heaven) we will be able to understand one another, and when we say goodbye today, its not forever.” Talk about moving. Moves me to tears every time! GOD IS SO ALIVE! And I know that now more than ever.
Knowing that God is obviously at work around the world in the streets of Mozambique, orphanages in China, schools in the Philippines and Guatemala, nursing homes in Central America, villages in Romania, on the beach and in townships in South Africa, summer camps in Eastern Europe and much more.
God is breath-taking and beautiful in so many ways. His Spirit is on the move, and His Spirit has been since it hovered over the waters at the dawn of time.
Genesis 1:2 “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
If He is doing all of that all over the world, than I know for a fact that God is doing crazy stuff in the USA as well. And that makes me so excited!
God’s love is for E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E. even for those who reject it.
So when most of me can’t stop thinking of the comforts of home (cereal, rice milk, spinach salad, sushi, carrot-apple juice, starbucks- I’m a bit of a health nut) I am getting pressed with the question of what is next? Right now I don’t know for sure, but what I do know is that I can’t miss out on being a part of the GOOD change that God is leading in every part of the world.
