This weekend we hosted a women’s retreat. We had planned and prayed and planned some more, worried that no one would show up. The table was set and we opened the doors to pleasantly find 7 women eager to come in. We had a timeline of events, who was talking when, what music to play and so on but our plans were wrecked entirely for the Lord who had different plans. Meet Lucy, a friend I had made simply by knocking on her door and asking if she knew Jesus. It turns out she is Catholic. Here in South America when you find people who will talk to you about religion they are usually Catholic. They use it as a defense to shoo us away, but she was different. She invited us in, I shared my testimony and God showed up. She only came the first night because I asked her to, but willingly came the next day on her own. She had questions and was eager to hear more. Saturday morning we had plans to wash their feet, and so I washed hers. When she turned to me and asked me if she could wash mine, my heart sank. A stranger just a couple of weeks ago, now able to understand what the love of The Lord looks like, and wanting to share it back with me. This month I have been reminded that love speaks no language.
