Malaysia has proven to be very interesting at all times. Some moments are more exciting than others, but its always spicy.
The ministry I will be serving in this month is amazing. I cannot really go into too much details but I’ll share what I can.
I am working at a center that offers food, showers, naps, and places to do laundry for the homeless people here in Penang. The daily routine goes a bit like so:
we walk to the site around 9 and begin the morning by praying with the staff and other volunteers.
some people head to the kitchen to begin chopping veggies for lunch
a few others go to the front to butter the donated bread and pour coffee for breakfast
at 10:00 am the doors are opened and around 100 hungry souls rush through the doors . The majority of the homeless people here are elderly chinese.
Most of them have been coming here for years so they know the routine. Only a few of them speak english so communicating with them is a bit of a struggle.
We have to BE Jesus, rather than speak Jesus.
after the crowd eats breakfast they go upstairs to shower, sleep, wash clothes, etc until lunch is served at 12:30 and we go back to the kitchen to help finishing preparing the meal.
The majority of service this month will be serving the ministries and servants already grounded here.
We washed dishes, scrubbed floors, cleaned dusty/moldy/beastly fans and fan blades. While I was scraping mold I realized that this was just trusting Jesus, wether or not it was my picture perfect ministry did not matter. This is where God has called me and where I’ll continue to love like Jesus. SImply by pouring into the hearts of the people here emptying themselves for the lost and broken in Penang.
It’s certainly not a glamorous job, But I am so stinking glad GOD has chosen me to do it.
