Cow Attack, Duck Fetus, Coconut Hunting, Gecko Wrangling, & the Spider of Death!

Not only do I want to share the incredible stories of our ministry; But I would like to take a moment to share with you some of the hilarious stories that have kept us smiling and laughing daily while on the World Race. Athough there have been many  heartbreaking experiences, God never lets me forget to live joyfully! I am learning more and more,  that our God is an extremely funny God!
Welcome to a day in the life of Krissy in the Philippines….

The Angry Cow

If I can give you any advise when traveling the world; Don’t try to talk to, sing to, ride, or take pictures with wild cows, oxen, or  caribou…. They will head-butt you if you make them angry! And yes….as you can see….I know from experience!

Eating 18 day Old Duck Fetus

Upon our arrival in the Philippines our gracious hosts Peter & Sam, treated us to a Filipino delicacy – Balut, which is Duck Fetus. Not knowing what we were getting ourselves into…we agreed to try this local treat.  Although I am the leader of my group, I was the biggest wimp out of everyone! I hardly managed to swallow my Balut down; as seeing the eyes and beak of the baby bird churned my stomach quite a bit. By the end of this experience,  I was victorious to eat the whole fetus. I am grateful to participate in this part of their culture, but might not have a love for scrambled eggs as much when i return home.

Coconut Hunting

They make climbing trees look easy in the Jungle Book- But trust me…It’s not!  It actually can be quite dangerous for American
city folk to try hunting coconuts! While in the mountains during ministry, I was feeling my crazy side wanting to come out, …so I found an outlet!  What better than climbing coconut trees!?  So, off we went with my sidekick Annie Rose– We found two trees that looked good for the task and began to climb.  Little did I know that the entire time I was climbing this palm tree that there was a enormous spider sitting amongst the coconuts right above my head. Thank God none of the locals on the ground notified me of the position of this nasty creature until I was back on the ground…as I might have passed out. It was the size of my hand! Thank You Jesus for not allowing this spider to meet me face to face while in the tree.

Gecko Wrangling
It all started in Australia….late one night we were visited by a lizard in our room. While some were panicking, I decided it would be fun to see if I could catch him! So, 20 min later after frantically climbing on chairs, chasing him up the walls, and crawling under tables – I was victorious to capture this little creature in a glass cup! I ensured that he was set free and new that God loved him! My next encounter with Gecko wrangling was here in the Philippines….After climbing the Coconut tree Scott picked up a gecko he found. I went to go speak to my new lizard friend, and suddenly he leaped at me and stuck to my shirt. I was so startled as this lizard came flying towards me, as I never new that they could fly through the air like that! Some call me the “Gecko Whisperer.”

Caving & the Spider of Death

While on a day off, we went on a mission to find Batman in the caves of Mabinay. Unfortunately, we never found Batman….but there were hundreds of his brothers and sister bats along with a frightening spider than nearly caused me to hyperventilate.  Luckily, we made it out safely and got to experience some incredible caving.
