Romania
at a glance

There are countless Orthodox churches all around the city.

 We jam into the vans for most of our traveling. It gets pretty hot in there!

We got to hang out with the people who lived in a nearby gypsy village. Here we are watching the soccer game with some of the women and children, practicing our cherades communication 🙂 They were very open and friendly, letting us hold and love on their babies. Alissa even got to bottle feed one of the precious newborn boys!

We got to play soccer with the kids of the village. They absolutely loved it.

 Scoooooooore!

We spend a lot of time doing physical work to try and be a blessing to
Casa Shalom. Usually that included weeding, sweeping, mopping, cleaning
windows, doing dishes, etc.

 It’s been so fun getting to work with different teams on our squad. Here are the ladies of Koinonia serenading their leader with a rap on his birthday.

 Playing with the kids in gypsyland = my favorite part of Romania. They loved the piggy back ride races.

 “Ratzo… Ratzo… Goosa!” [Duck, duck, goose]

 This is me with Christina and Ana, two girls who live in the village we went to regularly. Christina sang Bible songs with us and talked openly about Jesus and how she gets mad when the kids in her class say He’s not real. Even at such a young age, she shines her light so bright.

 We usually go on walks through the village with some of the girls from Jubilee. La Maita (“Little Lemon”) is one of the girls and she picked those yellow flowers for us to put in our hair (she is wearing the red, black, and white shirt).

 Having fun with our new friends at Jubilee! Here we are playing the hand game “Mother Elephant” with them. Vivi is in the gray shirt and these past few weeks, I’ve been able to get to know her very well. She is a believer, Praise God! I taught her a few praise songs and she has a Romanian Bible, so we read passages together.

 This sign is right near the bus stop that we walk to every day.

 There are some incredibly beautiful parks in Bucharest. During our free time and off days, a lot of us play card games. I’m learning so many new ones like Kribbage, Yuker, and Contact Rummy!

Romanian sunset. I took this while walking to the market one evening. I find such peace in knowing that the sun I watch set every night is the same sun my family and loved ones will watch rise tomorrow morning.

 “For the Lord God is a sun and a shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does He withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You.”
Psalm 84:11-12
