There are only 2 months of the race left and I can’t believe how the time has flown by and that I’m already at my last ministry location in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
I have the incredible opportunity to help teach preschool at Eli International School. It’s a small Christian school of about 40 students and they are from all over the world. In just my class alone there are kids from Korea, India, Cambodia, and Russia.
I get to teach students from all over the world and learn more about their languages and cultures. I get to teach them subjects like English, math, science, and social studies. But I also get to teach them about Jesus and his love for each of them.
It’s easy for me to relate to the kids here. I also went to a small Christian school for 10 years. I know what it’s like to go to a small school with students from all over the world. I know what it’s like to hear about Jesus’ love for me in a classroom setting.
For quite awhile now I’ve been asking God to help me grow in empathy. To be able to put myself in someone else’s shoes and feel their pain, joy, and sadness. I wasn’t seeing my prayer being answered the way I thought it should be answered. I was impatient and started to get frustrated. Wouldn’t God want me to grow in empathy? I was ready to give up, thinking that maybe I should be asking for something else.
But God has now opened an incredible door for me here at Eli International School. I can relate to these kids on a personal level. I understand what they’re going through and I can relate to their thoughts and emotions. God answered my prayer in his time because he knew exactly what I needed at the perfect moment.
God hears our prayers and he never ignore us. He tells us to ask and we will receive. He desires for us to dig deeper. He never gives up on us. He has perfect timing.
I’m full of expectancy and excitement for these last 2 months of the race. I know that God is going to move in big ways here in Cambodia, both in myself and in the people here.
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive what you ask for. Then your joy will be complete.”
John 16:24
